The Cory Snyder Collection
I honestly have no idea how I ended up a Cory Snyder fan.
I know I was about three or four years old and he was still considered to be an up-and-coming prospect with the Cleveland Indians, converting from shortstop to the outfield. We had Sea World in Ohio and for some reason they had a place there where you could get your own baseball card made (even though Geauga Lake was home to the Cleveland Blues for three games 100 years prior and therefore would have made SO much more sense for that), so in about 1987 or 1988 I got a card made and I was listed as the Indians' right fielder on it. Back when I got my first Indians hat around that time, the store we bought it from (KMart? Big Wheel? Heck's? Hills? Damned if I remember now) had kids size hats with player signatures embroidered on them. So of course my dad and I dug through and found a Snyder one and I wore it until I outgrew it a few years later.
After starting out with football and hockey cards in late 1990 and a few random baseball cards along the way before that, my first legitimate baseball pack in 1991 was a rack pack of Donruss and in that first pack came Snyder's card. At every card show I'd go to after that, I'd search for Snyder cards at every single table. Over time they got to be tougher to find in the Cleveland area after he moved on to Chicago, Toronto, San Francisco, and Los Angeles and became less of a potential star and more of a role player. But since cards became more widely available with advent of collecting on the internet, I was able to find a ton more that I didn't even know existed.
